Take Your Tears to God

FAITH BOOSTER:

Take Your Tears to God [May 22,2020]

WORD OF FAITH:

My eyes will flow unceasingly, without relief, until the Lord looks down from heaven and sees.(Lamentations 3:49–50)

Also Read Lamentations 3:49–66

Last summer, an orca whale named Talequah gave birth. Talequah’s species of killer whales was endangered, and her newborn was their hope for the future. But the baby whale lived for less than an hour. In a show of grief that was watched by people around the world, Talequah pushed her dead baby whale  through the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean for seventeen days before letting her go.

Sometimes believers in Jesus have a hard time knowing what to do with grief. Perhaps we fear that our sorrow might look like a lack of hope. But the Bible gives us many examples of humans crying out to God in grief. Lament and hope can both be part of a faithful response.

Lamentations is a book of five poems that express the sorrow of people who have lost their home. They’ve been hunted by enemies and were near death (3:52–54), and they weep and call on God to bring justice (v. 64). They cry out to God not because they have lost hope, but because they believe God is listening. And when they call, God does come near (v. 57).

It’s not wrong to lament the broken things in our world or in your life. God is always listening, and you can be sure that God will look down from heaven and see you.

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION:

  • How can you practice bringing all your emotions to God?
  • When have you felt God draw near to you in your sadness?

PRAYER OF FAITH:

Loving God, help us to remember that it’s right to lament wrongness before we can begin to change it.

Give hope, prayer, and encouragement below. Post a comment & talk about it.

Words Have Power!

FAITH BOOSTER:

Words Have Power! [June 2, 2017]

WORD OF FAITH:

The tongue has the power of life and death… Proverbs 18:21, NIV

God has given us amazing power through the use of our words. God created the world with the words He spoke, and we also have creative power with the words that we speak.

Maybe you aren’t where you want to be in life today. Could it be because of the words you’ve spoken in your past? Have you spoken words of death by saying things like, “I’ll never rise any higher; I’ve gone as far as I can go?” Or maybe you’ve said, “I’ll never break this addiction. I’ve had it too long; it’s too hard.” Now you are eating the fruit of those words—you’re still in the same place.

If you are ready to change your situation, then it’s time to change what you say about your situation. If you want a different harvest, you have to change the seeds you are sowing. Today, choose to speak life over your future. Let your attitude be, “This may be the way it’s been in the past, but this is not the way it’s staying. I’m coming up higher. I may feel weak, but my declaration is that I am strong.” Speak life, choose life, and move forward in His victory and blessing.

PRAYER OF FAITH:

Father in heaven, I repent for speaking words of death and sowing defeat in my own life. I ask that You uproot any negative crop from the past and help me speak words of faith so that I can walk in victory in every area of my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
